Telehealth Counseling

When making a choice for telehealth as your means for receiving therapy, keep in mind that I care about your health, safety and privacy. Rest assured I use a HIPAA-compliant platform that is user-friendly. Here are some tips for having an excellent experience:

Using a Telehealth Platform for Counseling

  • It is a great way to eliminate wait times.

  • Calming - No more sitting in rush-hour traffic while commuting to your therapist's office.

  • Flexibility - imagine scheduling a session during your lunch hour.

  • Expanded reach - you could "see" a therapist across town or in another city!

  • You do NOT have to worry about finding child care for your children.

  • Convenience - you can access from the comfort of your own home after a long day.

Tips for a Better Telehealth Experience

  • Use a laptop, iPad or prop up your phone rather than trying to hold your phone in your hand. It can be difficult to hold your phone up for the duration of the session.

  • Couples should be in the same room so both can be viewed from the same camera.

  • If you hear an echo, grab your earbuds. That will help!

  • Make sure you are in a confidential location. Your car can make a great therapy room.

  • Noticing a freezing or pixelated screen? Your internet or WiFi may be too slow. Try a wired connection. It may work better than using WiFi.

  • We will switch to the phone if the video fails.

 Face-to-Face Counseling

While there are many benefits to telehealth sessions, I feel the client will be able to establish a personal connection and better rapport with the therapist during Face-to-Face therapy. Face-to-Face interactions allow for nonverbal communication cues which play a critical role in building trust and understanding between the client and the therapist.

I also feel that in-person therapy allows for better therapeutic interventions and modalities that may not be as effective in virtual settings. There are just some techniques that are more impactful when conducted during in-person therapy.
